Rev. Max Douglas Redman

August 17, 1941 ~ November 7, 2019 (age 78)


Rev. Max Douglas Redman, age 78, of Decatur, went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at Starr Regional Medical Center in Athens.

  Max was a son of the late Thomas Henry Redman and Nancy Pearl Farmer Redman and was preceded in death by his sisters Joan Redman, Evelyn Redman, Nan Walker, Jane Shell, Kate Everett, and Margaret McKenzie, brothers Ralph Redman and Jeff Redman and a great-grandson Preston Redman.

  Max was a United States Army Veteran and a retired blacksmith with the Boiler Makers Local Union #454. As an Ordained Baptist Minister Max served as Pastor of churches in Meigs and surrounding counties for many years and was a member of Decatur First Baptist church where he served as a Sunday School Teacher and AWANA worker. Max was also a valued employee of Bowers Funeral Home. 

 Max was also a member of the Meigs County Masonic Lodge #213 for over 46 years where he served as Worshipful Master in 1979 and as Chaplin for several terms. He was a member of the Chattanooga Scottish Rite, The Alhambra Shrine, Chattanooga, TN, and was Currently serving as the Excellent High Priest, McMinn Chapter #74 Royal Arch Masons, Illustrious Master, Athens Council #188 Cryptic Masons, and the Eminent Commander, Athens Commandery #34 Knights Templar.

 Survivors include his beloved wife of 51 years Lovella Powers Redman of Decatur, sons Douglas Redman of Decatur, Randy Redman of Pikeville, and Jason Redman (Emi) of Grayson, GA. Grandchildren Josh, Ashley, and Austin Redman, Wyatt Adams, Clayton Logan, and Justin Redman, 7 great, great, grandchildren, a brother Thomas Redman of Athens, a special niece Joann Sledge, several other nieces, nephews, other extended family, and a host of friends.

  A funeral service will be held at 7 PM on Sunday, November 10, 2019 at Decatur First Baptist Church with the Reverend Jamey Davis, the Reverend Jimmy Lewis, and the Reverend Robert Sneed officiating. 

  Family and friends will assemble at 10 AM on Monday, November 11, 2019 at the funeral home and proceed to the Walnut Grove Baptist Church Cemetery for the 11 AM committal service with Masonic and Military Honors. The young men from Max’s AWANA class will serve an honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 3 - 7 PM on Sunday at the church prior to the services.
