Martha Jean Grubb Jolly, age 89, of Farragut.
Beloved family matriarch Martha “Jean” Grubb Jolly, of Farragut, received her heavenly “perfect” mind and body on January 12, 2020. Jean was born and raised in Meigs County, TN, until swept off her feet by a sailor on leave, Jack, who preceded her in death in 2012. Jack’s Navy career took them many places, Jean’s favorite being their assignment in Bermuda. She enjoyed sharing her memories there when returning on a family vacation. Jean was a lover of music, especially Elvis, owning Jolly Sound in Chattanooga as one of her business ventures. Jean was an avid golfer, member of the Meigs County Republican Women’s Club and devoted member of Mount Carmel United Methodist Church until moving to Knoxville to be closer to her son and family. She loved adventure and surprises and is fondly remembered by family and friends as a creator of both.
Jean is survived by her son, Jeff Jolly, Sr. and his wife, Gaye; grandson, Jeff Jolly, Jr., and great-granddaughters, Codie and Cali Jolly.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, James Lester Grubb and Anna Jean Powell Grubb and sister, MyraNell Grubb Taylor.
Surviving brothers and sisters: James Powell “Pete” Grubb (Joy), Marjorie “Bootsy” Collins, Mary Carolyn “Teetsie” Redman, Don Grubb (Nellie), P. D. “Doodle” Grubb (Carol), and Brenda Skinner (Billy). Jean has many nieces and nephews who she loved as if her own.
A graveside service will be held at Beta Cemetery in Decatur, TN., at 2 PM January 15, 2020 for family and close friends.
A celebration of life will be planned for a later date. Jean would be most pleased if you would play an Elvis song in remembrance of her.
Bowers Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements for Jolly family.
