She was a faithful, devoted member of the Ten Mile United Methodist Church where she served as pianist and organist for over fifty years, as well as teaching children’s Sunday School for many years. During this time she was a “full time” mother of four children, helped with demanding chores of farm life and was an active member of the Home Demonstration Club in the Ten Mile Community. After retirement she devoted many volunteer hours each week at the Athens Nursing Home (now NHC of Athens).

Ann was the daughter of the late Reliford Thomas and Olivia Cecil Smith. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 69 years, Joseph Shipley ”Joe” Edgemon; son, Thomas Kimble “Tommy” Edgemon; brothers, Reliford Taylor and A.J. Smith; sisters, Ola Mitchell Brewer, Esda Nance and Martha “Mattie” Gallaher Stelle; grandson, Stephen Mark Nelson.

Ann is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, James Dudley and Sally Edgemon of Soddy Daisy; daughter and son-in-law, Jo Anne and Bob Nelson of Knoxville and daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Ray Melton of Decatur. Ann is survived by 11 grandchildren, Jim, Kenny, Joe and Scott Edgemon; Keith and Josh Edgemon; Mike Nelson and Terri McGuire; Angela Ellis, Sharon Wallace and Cheryl Jones; 18 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in The Bowers Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will immediately follow the service in the Edgemon Cemetery in ten Mile.
The family will receive friends from 12-2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ten Mile Methodist Church or to a charity of your choice.

The family wishes to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to all the workers and care givers at NHC of Athens for the love and care given to our mother, Annie Smith Edgemon.
